Description

Though viticulture on this land dates back to the 12th century, Château Clarke found its modern identity in 1973, when Baron Edmond de Rothschild—co-owner of Château Lafite Rothschild—acquired the neglected estate with a dream: to transform an overlooked terroir into a Médoc masterpiece. Over the next decades, the vineyard was entirely replanted, drained, and reborn, with a focus on Merlot, an unusual choice for the region, giving Clarke its distinctive character.

Located in Listrac-Médoc, the estate spans 54 hectares of clay-limestone soils, ideal for Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is classified as Cru Bourgeois, and typically blends Merlot (majority) with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, aged 12–18 months in oak. Stylistically, Château Clarke offers a deep, savory red with aromas of dark plum, earth, and cassis, framed by grainy tannins and fresh acidity. It’s medium-bodied, elegant, and built for both early pleasure and short-term aging. A wine that speaks softly but lingers long.
