Natural Burmese Type A Jadeite “Lao Gan Qing” Jade Carving – Qilin Pendant
The Qilin, along with the previously mentioned Pixiu, Dragon, Phoenix, and Tortoise, is known as one of the “Five Divine Creatures”, with the Qilin ranked as the foremost among them. Its appearance is described as having the body of a deer, legs of a horse, tail of an ox, yellow fur, rounded hooves, and fleshy horns.
The Qilin symbolizes blessings, benevolence, prosperity, virtue, and wisdom, and also carries meanings of dispelling disasters, warding off evil, protecting the home, attracting wealth, and aiding in promotion.
“Every piece of jade must be carved; every carving must have meaning; and every meaning must be auspicious.”
In addition to the Five Auspicious Beasts, jade carvings often include a wide variety of motifs symbolizing good fortune and happiness. When jade collectors choose jadeite, they can consider not only the type, translucency, and color, but also the symbolism conveyed by the carving.
Value comes with meaning.
